Alter Ego: Harry Baer on Rainer Werner Fassbinder
Harry Baer had barely finished school when Rainer Werner Fassbinder hired him as an actor for his theatre company, in the late sixties. In films like GODS OF THE PLAGUE (1970) he often played Fassbinder’s alter ego — a role he also assumed as assistant director on countless Fassbinder films from WHY DOES HERR R. RUN AMOK? (1970) to the very last, QUERELLE (1982). Harry Baer, Fassbinder’s artistic collaborator and loyal friend, was there from before the beginning to beyond the end. Of all the members of Fassbinder’s inner circle, Harry was the most faithful and most trusted. This is his story, as told by himself.
