Infernal Circle: Bill Krohn on Douglas Sirk’s The Tarnished Angels
Bill Krohn, Cahiers du Cinéma’s correspondent in Los Angeles and author of numerous books on film, discusses the special place of THE TARNISHED ANGELS (1957) within Douglas Sirk’s oeuvre and why this black-and-white, Cinemascope adaptation of William Faulkner’s novel Pylon is as unique as the pyramids. He also offers a detailed analysis of the film’s key scenes. “There’s some terrific stuff here and despite running only a third of the film’s length, I think got more from this than I did from the commentary.” (Slarek, cineoutsider.com)
