Acclaimed cinematographer John Bailey, ASC (MISHIMA, THE BIG CHILL, SILVERADO) takes a close look at F.W. Murnau’s CITY GIRL (1929) and Ernest Palmer’s stunning photography and lighting methods for that film. Bailey, who was Nestor Almendros’s operator on Terrence Malick’s DAYS OF HEAVEN (1978), also discusses the influence of CITY GIRL on Malick’s film, especially in the wheat harvest sequences.
